This set consists of steel template frame which needs to be screwed onto the doors with two screws which are a part of this set. The frame has two knobs which allow the jig to be used with 1-3/4 and 1-3/8 thickness doors. There are 8 plates for different size and types of hinges as well as latches. Plates are made of a plastic which appears to be of a good quality. After selecting the plate matching your hinges and/or your latch you push it into the frame. This creates a template. In this set you will also find a router bit with 1/4″ shank. Bit has a ball bearing which rides on the template. All you have to do is to set the depth of cut with a router and route the groove in the doors. Template can be removed now and hinge or a latch placed in the groove. This set also contains a #8 (9/64″) drill bit which allows you to pre-drill holes for the screws which will hold the hinges or a latch on the doors. There is one more useful tool in this set – corner chisel. If you are using square hinges you need to use it to cut the round corners made by the router bit. Very useful addition!
All parts are made of adequate materials (mostly metal except for plates) and seems to be able to last for many projects. The manuals are written in easy to follow matter in English, French and Spanish. There are also numerous drawings which illustrate what to do step by step. This set makes hanging doors quite an easy task even for someone who never have done it before.

Great templates, and jigs. My only complaint would be to have metal templates.

I had a a few new doors to set up throughout the house and this hingemate kit worked great. Just like advertised

Very handy mortise kit. Sometimes the inserts are reluctant to seat properly in the metal holder.

Just purchased and used the hinge mate 350. The jig performed well but seems to me that something could be devised to clamp the jig to the door and frame rather than having to screw into the material. Additionally the inclusion or availability of a storage box/bag would be ideal. No way can I get it back in the package the way it came out for storage

I was amazed how quickly my order was processed, shipped and delivered. I work as I had hope and gave me a professional look when I was done.

Works well. For the hinges, a router with a large base works best. For the strike plate, a small router is easier to handle.

HINGEMATE 350 PERFORMED PERFECTLY. ALL OF TOOLS, BIT, CUTTER TEMPLATES & EVEN THE INSTRUCTIONS WERE CLEAR AND EASY TO USE. SOMETHING ALWAYS GOES WRONG WHEN DOING A PROJECT THIS BIG BUT THIS MADE AN EASY AND SMOOTH PART OF THIS JOB. I LOVE YOUR PRODUCTS AND THANK YOU,

Once you get the concept,, it the best tool ever. Replaced 8 interior doors,,, first one took a while,, the other 7 absolutely greased lightning. Well worth the learning curve.

The kit worked well. The ONLY thing I don’t like is that I have to screw it to the door. This created more work to fill the hole. Not a big issue, but this could very easily be a clamp on device.

What do I do if more horizontal depth is required than the thickness selector cam permits?

It may be necessary to remove the thickness selector assembly (red knob, spring, and cam) from each end of the metal frame to permit a deeper location of the frame/template.  Of course, doing this eliminates the automatic parallel alignment capability of the metal plate, so you must measure carefully to be sure the distances to the holes are correct before attaching the plate to the door or frame.  Be sure to re-install the thickness selector cam assemblies to the metal plate when that unusual job is completed, so the parts do not get lost.

What should I do if the stop on the jamb prevents the template frame from going over it?

If the stop on the door jamb exceeds the height of the template frame, you will want to create a shim or spacer to accommodate the additional height that you will need. Please be sure that the router bit will still properly ride along the inside of the hinge template after your spacer is in place.
